freelancers before they bring them on full time. so when those jobs become available, what will they be? here's what the report is saying. tool, that's a big spot where they're expecting to see a lot of hiring. obviously, technology companies haven't been hit as hard as banks, for example. customer service, of course, your customer facing those rules are pretty indispensable in good and bad times for companies. pickup expected there and also in sales position because often those positions are compensate the on how much you sell. that doesn't mean as much of a hit to the company in terms of what they have to pay out. those areas expected to pick up. we'll see. we're still losing hundreds of thousands of jobs every week here. >> we are. how do people position themselves best for these jobs? >> it's a great question. there's a whole series on cnn money called cnn money/hired. one of the suggestions is be selective when looking at applying for jobs. employers say their biggest

the death of senator kennedy, the 77-year-old lost his bat with brain cancer late last night. one issue that was near and dear to senator ted kennedy throughout his long career was health care, and he fought for it and until the end. almost a year into his diagnosis of cancer, he was making calls from his bed lobbying for support, not surprising, given he published a book in 1972 called "in critical condition, the crisis in america's health care." one presidential historian talked to our sister network cnn about kennedy's impact on the health care debate. >> there's no question that i think he depended on kennedy, obama did, for helping to get that health legislation through for making people on differentized of the aisle recognize this is a moment for them as senators when they can be remembered in history for having done something really important. without that voice there, it's even been troubling in the last couple months maybe even more so now. unless there's some feeling of you know, empathy toward trying
2:18 pm
to do something to make good what teddy wanted which was this passage of the bill that, happened after jack kennedy's death maybe it will in good spirit after teddy's. >> kennedy now passing away with the future of health care legislation uncertain. we will be remembering the life and legacy of senator ted kennedy all day, but because we are hln, we've got some more headlines to get to you right now. john and kaetd gosselin is speaking out about the show in her personal life in a brand-new interview with cnn's larry king. ever since their split went public, there's been an outcry to pull the plug on that show. a.j. hammer is in new york. showbiztant's viewers have been souding off how they feel about all this. what are they saying? >> they're saying pull the plug. that's been going on since the drama began to unfold. you would think that doing this show for kate woo now be a nightmare for her. think about it. the show started off as a happy

family show and getting great press and all of a sudden came the fame and the dissemination of their private lives in a very public way. but kate has a different opinion on how the show is for her. jon has said he wants to see the show go away. watch what kate said when larry king asked her about that and what she had to say about her feelings about continuing with the show. take a look. >> jon is quoted in the new "us weekly" i wish i had a 9:00 to 5:00 job instead of the nightmare i'm living. this is 24/7. i don't even want to do taping the show anymore. what's your reaction to that? >> jon's opinions and his goals are his. i know that personally for myself and the kids, this has been a good experience. it continues to be a good experience. and you know, really, the network has been extremely supportive above and beyond i feel what they need to be. and i only experience good things. everyone, would. everyone has a job.
2:20 pm
everyone has what they're dealing with, and generally speaking, this is the most flexible workable wonderful job for myself. remember, the kids are just playing in front of the cameras. >> so apparently, she feels it is a wonderful job for her. it still, would for her. she has an excellent time doing it and said it continues to be a good thing but not at all mentioning this could have a severe psychological impact on these kids and the future of these kids. that is exactly why so many people since the drama unfolded since they landed on the cover of every single magazine with their vordivorce and their repod marital affairs everybody's saying not a good idea to continue doing this show. >> i'm so struck by her saying that the kids are just playing in front of the camera. we crossed that bridge a long time ago in reality tv. that's not what reality shows are anymore. it's not just anybody living their life in front of the camera. it's so much more complicated

than that especially with kids. >> she said all along, i need to do the show because we need to make the money to support these kids. i got to tell you, there are a lot of people with very big family who's survive on a whole lot less. you know? they've created this lifestyle. >> break it down, a.j. >> they've created this lifestyle as a result of what they have earned from doing the show that they feel they have to maintain in a very particular way. we have a lot to talk about tonight. much more on kate's revenge as she is speaking out. what kate really says happened the night police were called to her house and does she think jon is a good father, plus is kate harming her kids by continuing to speak out. all the new developments tonight right here on hln. it is tv's most provocative entertainment news show. >> thanks, aj. a legal ruling allowed a foster father to give two boys a permanent home but lawyers for the state of florida are in court today to try to get that

this is governor mark sanford about to face reporters with his response. >> what i would like to do is just offer a very quick couple of press statements in line of lieutenant governor's press statement of earlier today. and what i actually have here is i'll get you to hand out. you can all review it at your pleasure. it's a letter for the lieutenant governor. and the long and short of my
3:41 pm
letter to him is i very much appreciate the offer. in that light, in some way it's a proposal. it's almost a representation of something close to heaven on earth. with all respect to the cameras and the load of reporters, nothing against our time together here over the last 60 days, but in a lot of ways it would represent heaven on earth to take him up on that offer of him taking my spot here for the last 16 months. but, you know, as much as i might like to do that, as much as i might want to do that, i really believe it would be wrong for a couple of different reasons. i want to go down those different reasons. let me back up and explain the larger context of where i'm coming from. i was unfaithful to my wife. you all know that. i think the world knows that.
3:42 pm
because when confronted with it i laid all the cards on the table, i talked about it in pain staking detail. i laid the cards out on the table. and then in the wake of that y'all in the media and pundits and everybody else analyzed it and focused on it and reported it and analyzed it and focused on it and reported on it some still more. and in that process south carolinians moved on. two nights ago i spoke and it was interesting the number of people who brought up the notion of jobs and the economy and what was going to happen next. they brought up this notion of restructuring and what what is the makeup of a south carolina worth. they termed about issues of what was happening with health care or not happening. they touched ab a bunch of
3:43 pm
different things. but they weren't talking about this. i was at hampton for lunch the other day. i was over in somerville a couple of days back. you retrace your corners of the state, and what you find is there's an amazing capacity for forgiveness with real world people. and there's an amaze iing acceptance of this notion that god can use perfect people to perform jobs in all walks of life. i consistently get that when i talk to people across the state. the one exception is here in columbia. and i don't mean this negatively towards y'all in the press. but some in the press very much are still focused on this. you end up with something of a
3:44 pm
circus. some want a new job and think they should stir it up. other want payback time. i have a long list of politics not fond of me. live by the sword. die by the sword. it's your time. maybe some think it helps sell papers. a variety of different reasons as to why this thing has been chronicled as it has. i don't mean that meanly, but when you look at the fact that this state is going to run a $100 million deficit this year and the amount of coverage that has gotten versus other things, wait a minute, we have real world issues we need to talk about. it's uncouple bent on even folks
3:45 pm
in the media to be talking about those things. what i say in the letter is i'm not going to be railroaded out of this office by political opponents or folks never fans of mine in the first place. a lot of what's going on now is pure politics, plain and simple. what i talk about in my letter is, you know, me hanging up the spur 16 months out as comfortable as that would be, as much as i might like to do that on a personal basis, it is wrong, one, because as you might dislike somebody, it's not right to go rewrite history. we have an incredible record when it comes to watching out for the taxpayer. there have been attempts to rewrite history on that front. the first wrong was mine. pure and simple. again, i've said more about that than ever needs to be said.
3:46 pm
when folks go through all the numbers, we lock incredibly good. this is well beyond the simple notion of us using the state playing a full third less than any previous administration or one-half less than one of the other administrations. it goes beyond moving assessment to move around the state because it was cheaper than using a plane the than jet fuel. we begin to look in this. if people want to do serious reporting or serious investigation, they will be uncovering these facts. now forget the cost of the first class ticket or a private jet across the atlantic. turns out now as we begin to do our beginning of a the looking around, turns out folks are flying back and forth on the concord from europe in days
3:47 pm
past. it turns out that members of the general assembly. it turns out there was a long standing practice of drop-offs and pick-ups with planes and other assets that wasn't anything but the best interest to the taxpayer. it really needs to be looked at in the larger context. as much as i might want to pull the tent just because folks are frightened or other things does
3:48 pm
not mean it is the right time to fold the tent. i would thirdly say that good decisions in the world of politics as in every other in our life are based on facts not reports. and so if i was to go around the room. if i was to ask you how many first class tickets were bought by the administration you would say what? >> a dozen or so. >> what would be your guess? >> 50. >> and we could go around the room and get different answers based on fair assessment. that's what was recently reported in every paper. the answer is zero. we can prove that. >> governor sanford is obviously not going to leave office. he says it's not the right time to fold the tent. he blames a lot of this on the
3:49 pm
media. he said a scandal like this helped sell papers. and he's going to abide by the creed that god can use imperfect people. he referred to his yearlong affair with a misstress and he's now referring to charges that he misused state funds to make several visits for him. to korry on that relationship. the governor of south carolina, inspite of a call by lieutenant governor to resign says no way. he's filling out his term. analysts say the labor market will be the last area of rebound. it will eventually. are you going the be ready when it does? poppy harlow has a look at what sectors may be the first to start hiring again. >> hi, chuck. it's still a bleak picture when you talk about the u.s. job market. tomorrow morning we're going to get the weekly jobless claims numbers. the expectation more than half a million people will have lined up for the first time benefits last week. that would be an improvement from where we stood before.
3:50 pm
and there are companies, we are hearing, laying that ground work for growth when the economy does rebound. there's a new report out ground that we have. actually more than half of the managers they surveyed plan to hire in the next 12 months, a separate survey from the american staffing association shows the demand for those temporary and contract workers and freelance workers is also expected to pick up. that's a good indicator for temporary and future employment. so some good indicators, but when those jobs become available, where will they be? according to the survey, is in technology, technology stocks not hit as hard as banks in this recession. customer service another area of growth according to this survey. those are customer facing roles and those are important in good times as well as bad. and finally sales are critical.

>> how do people align themselves for these kinds of jobs? >> that's a great question. there's a theory on cnnmoney.com, employers say their biggest challenge right now is finding qualified and pants. 44% of resumes are from unqualified candidates. think about taking the time to taylor your application to your specific position. that's going to make a big difference, about 60% of managers said they're willing to negotiate higher pay for qualified candidates, even for folks that are still eon the job. cnnmoney.com has a great series on this. wall street traders seem to be taking a cautious tony today. a quick check of the dow, with about 8.5 left in the trading
